GILLES BEDARD
Canadian, b. 1954

Gilles Bedard was born in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. He joined the Canadian Coast Guard and spent four years in the North on icebreakers. The Midnight Sun showed him true light, and he was deeply attracted to painting while at sea. In the 1980s, he settled in Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive, Charlevoix, Quebec, to paint pastel portraits and landscapes.

Charlevoix is the favourite subject matter of Bedard. He has his own unique way to paint the foliage, and his handling of green is well known in the artist community. His main concern is the pattern of light, and his works are awash with light. They recreate a particular moment in a lively and delightful way.

Since 1984, Bedard has regularly shown in group and solo exhibitions. He is famous for figurative landscapes with a touch of impressionism and joie de vivre.
